Dan Simons knows good business. Our founder, and co-owner of Farmers Restaurant Group, recently announced an investment in an online marketplace for office catering that works to connect independent chefs looking to build their brands and businesses with office teams looking for delicious catering options in their local areas.
Introducing HUNGRY.
Their mission is simple: To create an opportunity for great local chefs, to provide tech and service jobs that help power the local economy, and to give back via their ongoing commitment to fight hunger by donating a meal to the Arlington Food Bank for every two HUNGRY meals purchased.
This commitment to community and serving great food crafted with care resonated with Dan as those are the very elements that are woven into, and align, with the fabric of VSAG & the Farmers Restaurant Group brand concept.
“Showing my support for HUNGRY was an easy decision,” says Dan.“It is a platform that creates opportunities for Chefs, in a mindful and sustainable way, and helps customers get more food options. So aside from my dream of all people eating all meals 24/7 in one of my restaurants, it was clear to me HUNGRY was a fantastic business to support.”
Currently operating out of Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, with more markets on the horizon, HUNGRY was founded by industry entrepreneurs and brothers Eman & Shy Pahlevani to pair local businesses with top area chefs offering high-quality office lunch catering services, and beyond. Led by their impressive network of chefs, who have resumes spanning from former White House chefs and James Beard award nominees to local chefs who shine in their field, HUNGRY has to-date catered to more than 400 DC and Philly-based companies, such as Amazon, Microsoft, and E*Trade.
In addition to Dan’s investment, HUNGRY’s latest round of funding for future growth was secured in part from musicians Usher and JAY-Z, restaurateur Tom Colicchio, and founder of Honest Tea, Seth Goldman.
