Hospitality Interview: Lebanese Taverna’s Charlie Ayoub

Charlie Ayoub, General Manager of Lebanese Taverna in Tysons Corner, VA, prides himself on hospitality above all else.  A veteran of the industry, Charlie was gracious enough to answer a few of our questions.

1. What first interested you in the restaurant industry?
I loved being around people and learning about wine.  I grew up in the business, and that’s all I wanted to do.

2. How did you evolve to be where you are today?
I started working as a busboy when I was 14 years old, and I have been in the industry ever since.  I got my first management job at Bennigan’s when I was 24 and I’ve never looked back.

3. What is your go-to tip for a well-run restaurant?
Focus on training your staff — the concept of hospitality can’t be overstated.  Be consistent and never waiver.

4. Anthony Bourdain is calling — what city would you take him to for your favorite eats?
I can’t stray far from home, which is Washington, DC.  I’d take him to Old Ebbitt Grill.
